Contrary to popular belief, image isn\u2019t just a surface issue. It\u2019s strongly tied to your effectiveness as a leader.<\/p>\n<p>Your ability to project a leadership presence in the eyes of employees, customers, and others is closely related to your job performance. This means that your image can be either an asset or a liability as you engage in the roles of leadership.<\/p>\n<p>A study of 150 executives who attended our <a href=\"\/leadership-programs\/leadership-at-the-peak-training-for-senior-executives\/\">Leadership at the Peak program<\/a> revealed that a leader\u2019s image correlates highly with perceptions of their leadership skills. The study also showed that leaders who <a href=\"\/articles\/leading-effectively-articles\/communicating-the-vision\/\">communicated their vision<\/a> in a strong, positive way were seen as stronger.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is Leadership Image?<\/h2>\n<p>Leadership image encompasses many things: personality, behavior, body language, and speaking style, as well as formal status and physical appearance. Simply stated, your image is the concept that others form about you as a result of the impressions you make on them.<\/p>\n<p>Your image can have a great impact on how people get to know you as a person and as a leader. A leader with a flat or monotone vocal style, inappropriate volume, or poor diction won\u2019t be effective.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be clear.<\/strong> Leaders who speak in vague, disjointed, or rambling sentences will be misunderstood.
